Psychology Online High School Course

COURSE LENGTH:

Full Year (30 Sessions)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

General Psychology is a course designed to introduce and excite high school students about the study of psychology. In this semester-length course, students will learn about all major areas of psychology. Students will learn to explain behavior and apply theories using concepts from different theoretical frameworks. Students will also learn to analyze, interpret, and evaluate psychological research studies.


COURSE LENGTH:

  • 30 hours of synchronous work

  • 45 hours of asynchronous work

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Be able to identify the basic concepts and research findings associated with each theoretical perspective of psychology

  • Gain an understanding of each of the major areas of psychology, including:

    • Biological Bases of Behavior

    • Sensation and Perception

    • Learning

    • Cognitive Psychology

    • Lifespan Development

    • Motivation, Emotion, and Personality

    • Clinical Psychology

    • Social Psychology

  • Apply psychological principles to an understanding of human behavior

  • To gain an understanding of the theoretical perspectives and the major areas of psychology

  • Use empirical evidence to come to suitable and objective conclusions about mental processes and behavior

  • Be able to explain different models of behavior based on science as opposed to intuition

  • Learn to design, conduct, and evaluate psychological research

  • Understand and describe the ethical principles that guide psychologists in research and therapy today

  • Identify, read, and critically assess credible scientific sources

  • Use evidence-based reasoning to support arguments

  • Be able to apply complex behavioral concepts to real-world scenarios
