COURSE OVERVIEW:

Modern European History (1400 CE - Present) shaped our present World’s domestic and international relations through a series of monumental revolutions and counter revolutions of religious, political, social, and economic institutions.  Students of this course will come to appreciate those developments while honing their skills as critical thinkers, readers, researchers and discussion leaders.

  • Fall of the Wall: Post-Soviet World

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Critical Thinking – Appreciate the cause and effect nature of Modern European History as an opportunity to ask questions and anticipate based on a variety of past events.

  • Critical Reading – Utilizing a variety of quality primary and secondary sources, make connections to other sources and previous events to gain a well-rounded appreciation for life and thinking of the era.

  • Persuasive Writing – Craft a strong argument using a body of evidence and critical thinking in response to a challenging prompt.

  • Persuasive Discussion – Using evidence and critical thinking, express a cogent argument in response to the prompt, course leader, and peers in your group.

  • Independent Thinking – Complete, digest, and think upon a variety of sources offered outside of synchronous meeting time to enrich your appreciation for the scope of events and lives of the various eras. As well, take the initiative to ask questions and follow up on feedback.

  • Active Learning – Listen to, process, and connect with what the course leader and peers are offering during synchronous meetings.
